Where Mick Jagger cashed out stupid sums to close the neighbouring golf course (the mowers weren’t so supportive of his hangover). Where Julio Iglesias has his own suite (with a circular bed, obviously). Where Princess Diana booked an entire wing for the summer (and was famously shot topless). Byblos built an emblematic reputation since its opening in 1986. It lives on as La Zambra.

THE CHALLENGE

Byblos closed in 2010, the iconic blue and white building reflecting memories from this bygone era. We were tasked to bring it back to life…. after an argument on the golf course. Byblos was always destined to be more than a golf hotel. It deserved to be more than an alternative to the other flashy resorts on the coast, in tarnished Marbella. It deserved to be a place with an unscripted experience, absorbed by the refined imperfection of Andalucía. The torch is now reignited as La Zambra, a new platform for the curious. 

WHAT WE QUESTIONNED

We questioned what made Byblos so iconic? The timeless moments? The informal sense of escapism, that the region had to offer. Why La Zambra couldn’t be another golf resort? What would truly transform it into a destination? A destination it once was.

THE OUTCOME

La Zambra. An Andalucían Icon. Where we reward the curious. Where there is more than what meets the eye. Where nothing is predictable. Where we reveal our secrets only to those inquisitive to ask. A resort for the Reluctantly Corrupted. One more drink, one more look at the food menu, one more studied stumble across some secret spot you hadn’t yet discovered. Sound familiar?
